Our Story

Husband Nico and Anke arrived in Ireland in a small town called Bawnboy in West Cavan in November 1984. They settled in Ireland but found it difficult to buy bears for her 4 children. After designing her own Teddy Bears, Bear Essentials was born. Anke was inspired to enrich people’s lives and create lifelong memories. It was with this in mind that Bear Essentials was established in 2000 as a Craft and Tourism Business. Since its infancy it has become the number one online supplier of Teddy Bears in Ireland. Anke enjoys engaging with people. Bear Essentials are affiliates of some major brands such as Steiff, Charlie Bears, Bukowski Design, Jellycat and others. If there is a country that Ireland can ship too, Bear Essentials will probably have shipped a bear to it. Shipping worldwide is essential for our Teddy Bears, sharing memories always.

THIS IS TEDDY HEAVEN.

My teddies went on a holiday to Cavan, and made loads of friends with all the other while the lovely owners of the Teddy Hospital in Bawnboy, Co. Cavan took care of them.

This hospital is perfect for your teddies, they will be safe and sound and make loads of friends while they get patched up, and the owners will return them home in super safe, express tracked post, and super comfortable packaging.

I am so grateful to this hospital more than life could imagine, and my teddies sleep with me every night. Thank you so much to the loving owners of the Teddy Hospital. Jawssh the Shark with a lissp, and Grammy Bombay the grandmother elephant full of wisdom loved it in the Teddy Hospital and recommend the place to all their friends, from all over the world!

P.s. Grammy Bombay the grandmother elephant full of wisdom now sleeps with my mam in her hospital every night, and Jawssh stays with me.

I recently sent Wolfgang .. my Vintage German Bear 65 years old to them for some much needed TLC .. They have done a wonderful job in sympathetic repair for foot pad ... restitching of his right ear and replacement of his Growler .. they even put a stitch in his nose ... all in all a great experience .... would seriously recommend if your bear needs TLC

Had my 70 year old toy dog repaired, he had a bad leg and practically no fur. He has been beautifully mended and looks wonderful now while he still retains his old style looks. Thank you Bear Essentials for an excellent job.

Anke repaired my Teddy Bear which is over 55yrs old. Cleaned him, stitched him and restuffed him. Also got nose repair and new cardigan. He didn’t lose his original character. Great job and delighted with the outcome

5* service from start to finish. Anke was very professional and helpful even suggesting adding a cardigan to protect the hair on my old ted. . Her shop is well worth a visit if down that way. I noticed she has another venture relating to bears which would be very suitable for a child’s day out.
Don’t hesitate contacting Anke to have your bear repaired. Lovely lady and great surroundings.

An absolute great service by Anke & her team. I sent off and received my bear within a week and the quality is untrue. She can restore any bear and I am forever grateful.
The bear I asked her to restore is a Christmas present and our Christmas will be very special now.

I have purchased a uni toys Bernese mountain dog and a Stieff dumbo elephant, the dog is so soft and fluffy, and the elephant is cute! I love them so much!! The seller is nice, replying emails within a day, the packing is good and I’m so glad that they were shipped to Hong Kong just in 7 days. Would definitely purchase again!

I sent my teddy who is 60 years old to be repaired. He had lost an eye and needed new stuffing and some stitching done. He came back brand new, I was absolutely delighted with him. I am giving to my granddaughter for her first Christmas. I highly recommend Bear Essentials.

Anke & her team did an absolute great job restoring 2 over loved bears for our 10 year old daughters. Cannot recommend enough the process from start to finish - from how she reassured our daughters that the bears would be looked after, involving them both on what what they wanted done and not done - to the remarkable job in restoring the bears - our daughters were over the moon when they picked them up today. Thank you and it is great to have such a special service in Ireland, when in modern life everything is just thrown away and replaced.

Teddy bear paradise I didn't know which way to look I could've stayed there. Super soft fur on loads of them like velvet. I wanted them all. This is way better than build a bear and toymaster. Fantastic quality bears. Lovely owners who make you feel at home. I can honestly say I can't wait to come back. Gorgeous shop. Should be everywhere. I really enjoyed my time looking around there.
