Yes how do we care for our teddy bear?
We want to keep our teddy bears at their best, but not all of us are quite sure what to do.
” Put them in the washing machine” is always the answer we get from the children here at our Teddy Bear Workshops. But should we?
Fine for towels and socks, but DEFINALTLY NOT FOR TEDDYBEARS. !!!!!!
Here at Bear Essentials we have been running our Teddy Bear Hospital for the past 10 years, and have come across some very sorry looking bears. We work hard to get them all back to their very best, finely stitched, cleaned and brushed. Some get a new eye, a new limb or even a new growl.
However, you can take care of your own little friends by making sure your just following a few simple rules.
The first thing we would say is ”keep away from pets”.
We are sure we don’t have to say much more about that! If it happens that your new puppy gets hold of your bear and tears off ears, nose, arms or legs make sure to keep all parts, we might be able to stitch them back together. If that happens find your way to our Teddy Bear Hospital page.
Its always important to try and establish what material your bear is made of. This will indicate on how to wash, what temperature etc. So try to leave labels on if you possibly can or keep them save. Collectors of the famous Steiff Teddy Bears will know never to take a Steiff Button from the ear, as it will straightaway decrease the teddy bears value.
For New Born you should always make sure that teddy bears and comforters are machine washable. What we would also advise is to have a backup teddy bear and comforter for your child. Babies get so attached, that it can cause a lot of crying for parents and children if they have to be separated. A second comforter, in the same material, can always be used to partly repair the first, much loved comforter. All bears for small children should have a CE label which means that the toy has been safety tested to European Compliance.
Another tip how to care for teddy bear.
If you have your bear sitting in a window, the permanent exposure of the sun will make the colours of your bear fade.
If there is a tear or small hole showing on your teddy, get it repaired immediately, otherwise this will progressively get worse and more difficult to repair.
There are another type of teddy bears that our customers buy for investment. These are our Collector Teddy Bears. These bears will be treated with a little more care as they can be expensive and would possibly be kept in glass cabinets away from light and dust keeping them in tip top condition.
Just take good care not to lose your treasured bear. Many tears have been shed, many journeys have been made by our customers to retrieve their precious companion. An option of finding your bear again might be a Teddy Bear Passport.
And like us who love to get some TLC, give your bear a brush ever so often to keep the dust away.
