Bear Essentials is located in the peaceful West Cavan countryside. This little known landscape, has now been recognised internationally by the new expansion of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark.
All our school tours & workshops are customised & adapted to suit pre, primary & secondary schools. We also welcome any other youth or adult group to experience a memorable day out here at Bear Essentials Brackley Lake, Bawnboy, Co.Cavan.
Teddy Bear History with Anke Morgenroth & Elisabeth Mc Kiernan from Bear Essentials
Children & teachers will discover the history of teddy bears and make their own cuddly soft toy teddy to take home. Depending on how much time you spend with us we include a film, games & quiz.

Wildlife Track with Heather Bothwell from Blue Damsel Discovery & Anke Morgenroth
This workshop will be outside in the fresh air (as weather permits). We will use the gardens and surrounds of the Silver Bear Centre to explore the everyday drama of life in the undergrowth. Children will be out hunting for life in the garden. They will also get a chance to see some creatures less often seen, but common in the district. Workshops are tailored to suit the age group of the participants and the changing seasons of the year. We will use games, stories and art to bring simple ecological ideas to life. In the event of very inclement weather we will retreat to the citrus house to continue activities.
Recycling is our Future with Anke Morgenroth & Elisabeth Mc Kiernan
We are learning about recycling and what we can do ourselves. But the fun part of this workshop is to discover what we can create from materials & every day items we are throwing out. By the end of this workshop everyone will create something from recycled material.

You be with us for at least 3 hours. Heather will work with you outside and discover plants and creatures. After a break you work inside the Silver Bear Centre and have the opportunity to make your own wildlife, farm animal or a teddy bear to take home with you.
While you with us you can enjoy our playground and several picnic areas for your lunch. Healthy lunch can be ordered at time of booking or you just bring your own.
For outside workshops bring your wellies & raincoat and may be a change of clothe.
